Why choose Allan Miller Transport Training?

We are a South Australian-based Registered Training Organisation, providing a ’one stop shop’ for all of the training services a transport company might require for its operators. We have been operating as a company since 2003, and in that time have established a solid track record for delivering quality services to our customers.

Family owned and operated

Our training team is led by Peter Simmons, who has over 34 years experience in the transport industry, including 25 years experience in transport training.  Peter only employs trainers that also have extensive industry experience and share his passion for training and making a difference in the industry.

We aim to provide a great service for our customers, so that any training requirements can be arranged with just a simple phone call. We value personal relationships and aim to help drivers to get the licence and skills they need, and help the transport industry to develop a skilled and safe workforce.

We have worked in partnership with the transport industry for over 10 years, to meet their training needs with quality ‘job-standard’ training and flexible, tailored delivery. This means we provide our students with the skills that are needed to do the job rather than just a licence.

Quality assured training

  • We employ only industry-experienced trainers, with at least 5 years transport industry experience, to ensure credibility and quality of information presented. We invest substantially in the ongoing development and learning of our trainers.
  • We assign a dedicated trainer to your project, so they get to know your business/procedures. This means we can work with your operations staff to ensure training is scheduled to minimise disruptions, as well as tailor training units to company requirements.
  • We have project management and student database systems in place, including a dedicated Operations Manager responsible to oversee timely delivery of training programs.
  • Our training materials are developed and maintained in-house, rather than purchased ‘off the shelf’, so that we capture and continuously improve our training directly from feedback from industry.
  • We allocate a dedicated Customer Service Manager, responsible for ongoing monitoring of customer satisfaction and resolving any queries/issues that may arise.
  • To be authorised to display the Nationally Recognised Training logo (below), we comply with and are audited against the VET Quality Framework

Our experience

We have a sound track record at successfully delivering large training programs. Here is an overview of some large projects we have completed or are in progress.

2014 – Present, Department for State Development
Work Ready Contracted Provider
We continue to provide services to the transport industry and students that are seeking work in the industry via the various funding mechanism under the Work Ready scheme.

2012 – 2014, Department for State Development
Skills for All Contracted Provider
We were contracted to provide driving operations, warehousing and logistics training under the Skills for All scheme.  Enabled by this significant reform to VET we were able to provide new and innovative pathways for students to gain entry to the transport industry.

2003 – 2012, DFEEST
User Choice Contracted Provider
We have been a User Choice contracted supplier since the first year of the company’s operation in 2003, and have delivered more than 300 successful completions in Certificate III over that time.

2011-2012, DFEEST
Productivity Places Program (Jobseekers)

This project was designed to assist 340 disadvantaged students obtain their car driver’s licence and obtain a range of practical driving related skills and knowledge to assist them in entering the workforce or securing an apprenticeship, overcoming a significant barrier to employment.

2010 – 2012, Fielders Steel
National Training Provider

We were engaged by Fielders steel to provide Certificate III training nationally, to improve and promote a culture of safety and to help ensure all OH&S compliance obligations were met. We delivered to over 200 trainees enrolled at locations in SA, WA, NT, QLD, NSW and Victoria.

2010 – 2012, DFEEST
Productivity Places Program (Existing Workers)

We secured 122 places in this funding round to assist the road transport industry upskill their workforce and provide skills strongly in demand in the sector. We complete this project with excellent feedback received from participating employers.

2008 – 09, DFEEST/TAFE SA
Drought Relief Heavy Vehicle Operator Certification Program

280 drought affected farmers were upgraded to Heavy Rigid (HR), Heavy Combination (HC) or Multi Combination (MC) licences to assist them to find work that would supplement their farm income. This training was carried out completely in regional South Australia, presenting logistical and planning challenges. We delivered the program on time and within budget.

2008 – 2011, Path Transit Certificate III Traineeship Program
Path Transit, a Perth-based company with a workforce of over 600 drivers, engaged us to assist them transform their in-house driver training program into a program that would deliver nationally recognised Certificate III qualifications. This has been up and running since 2008, and has resulted in over 150 successful completions.
