Become an instructor

driving-instructorBeing a Motor Driving Instructor (MDI) can be an interesting, rewarding and challenging career.  Most MDIs are self-employed, so you should be ready for the risks (and rewards) of running your own business and being your own boss.  Most of all, you need to enjoy teaching and value teaching a young adult to be a safe driver.

Allan Miller Driving School offers the training course you need to complete to become a licensed Motor Driving Instructor - the Certificate IV in Transport and Logistics (Road Transport – Driving Instruction).   Our course is very practical and hands-on, and being delivered by a leading driving school the training is strongly influenced by real-world situations and examples.  This course is also nationally recognised.

Course Delivery
There are 3 separate classroom theory instruction days and  approximately 30-40 hours of on-road training to teach you the practical components required to become a Motor Driving Instructor (MDI).

The practical components are conducted on a 1-to-1 or 2-to-1 basis in one of our vehicles.  This training is arranged in 3 hour sessions at mutually convenient times. Classroom and practical sessions are supplemented by assigned self-study tasks and private practice.

Our course is led by Colin Greig, who has over 30 years experience as a Motor Driving Instructor and a track record of delivering quality training to his students.

September 2010 – Most people are unsure about when or if to indicate when leaving a roundabout. This is something that we should be aware of as the current penalty is 2 demerit points and the associated fine is approximately $240. The South Australian Handbook states: At all times, you should signal with your indicators to let other drivers know your intentions. Immediately before leaving the roundabout (i.e. when passing the exit before your exit) you must signal with your left indicator, unless it is impracticable to do so. This applies to turning left and right or continuing straight ahead. This tells drivers waiting to enter the roundabout where you intend to exit.
