Learning to drive is a life skill and an important investment for the learner driver and their family. The skills and attitudes absorbed by the learner during the driver education period will be applied for years to come.  When teaching a student driver, approach is everything. The first lessons are vital and set the tone for the learning process.

Allan Miller has a team approach to teaching the student driver. You, the supervising driver (usually Mum or Dad) are an important part of the team - we recommend you take an active approach and work closely with the learner driver and professional driving instructor. This team approach promotes continuity of learning - your time as supervising driver will reinforce the lessons of the instructor.

Before you get into a car with your learner driver for the first time, come to one of our Free Information Evenings.  These evenings are designed to set up the 'team learning' approach, and provide some practical guidance and confidence for you to provide the maximum benefit in your role as supervising driver.

Road Safety, both during and after driver training, is our top priority. The cars we use for teaching have dual controls and our instructors are professional trainers. Allan Miller Driving School is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO number 40118).

We recommend that Allan Miller Driving School provides the first driving lesson to the learner driver. This can allieviate many of the anxieties of both student and supervisor in relation to the first drive. It also sets up an outline for the skills needed to progress to a Provisional (P1) licence.

The difference with Allan Miller Driving School is:

  • we have a large team of instructors, meaning we are confident we can find lesson dates and times to suit your learner
  • we tailor each lesson to match what the learner needs to know
  • we are interested in making your learner a better drivercontact-us-2
  • we are a professional driving school, experienced in training new drivers
  • our driving instructors are patient, friendly and build confidence
  • convenient payment methods are available, including the ability to pay online

September 2010 – Most people are unsure about when or if to indicate when leaving a roundabout. This is something that we should be aware of as the current penalty is 2 demerit points and the associated fine is approximately $240. The South Australian Handbook states: At all times, you should signal with your indicators to let other drivers know your intentions. Immediately before leaving the roundabout (i.e. when passing the exit before your exit) you must signal with your left indicator, unless it is impracticable to do so. This applies to turning left and right or continuing straight ahead. This tells drivers waiting to enter the roundabout where you intend to exit.
