Course delivery

The theory component of the course is a 3-hour session delivered in a classroom format, normally on a weekend or in the evening.

For those students upgrading from HR only, we provide a 3-hour familiarisation with articulated vehicles in a Heavy Combination (HC).

The practical component of the course is conducted one-to-one and scheduled as a full 9-hour day.  The day begins with practical training in the yard to complete reversing and coupling/uncoupling trailers, followed by the on-road driving component.

Please note that all students are different and some students may require additional training to achieve competency. We will discuss arrangements for additional training and assessment on a case by case basis.

Course materials
We provide all materials required for the course, including a student handbook for reference.

Trainers
Our trainers are all Accredited Instructors, have extensive industry experience and a track record of delivering quality training.  We emphasise a friendly and relaxed approach, and provide the support necessary for students to successfully complete their training.

Recommended number of lessons
Allan Miller Driving School provides 3 hours of classroom instruction and 9 hours of practical driving instruction to assist you in attaining your MC from an HC licence. When you go from an HR to MC the lesson includes a warm up in an HC vehicle first.

We believe training is most effective using the equipment the student will be using on the job, and we therefore offer the option to conduct training using your safe, roadworthy and 75% loaded B-double.

Assessment
Assessment is competency-based, and is a combination of written assessment of knowledge and practical demonstration of skills.

Course fees & booking
The MC licence upgrade costs $1,450 including the 3-hour theory session and the full 9-hour day of practical training and assessment.  Additional hours, if required, are charged at $130 per hour.
Prices current as at 1 January 2010.

Please contact us to confirm availability and to book your course.

Locations available
The theory session is conducted in Edwardstown and the practical can commence at either Lonsdale or Regency Park.

Latest News

September 2010 – Most people are unsure about when or if to indicate when leaving a roundabout. This is something that we should be aware of as the current penalty is 2 demerit points and the associated fine is approximately $240. The South Australian Handbook states: At all times, you should signal with your indicators to let other drivers know your intentions. Immediately before leaving the roundabout (i.e. when passing the exit before your exit) you must signal with your left indicator, unless it is impracticable to do so. This applies to turning left and right or continuing straight ahead. This tells drivers waiting to enter the roundabout where you intend to exit.
